History of the parish

The first building of Milagris church was built in 1652, but much before that Catholics from Goa had migrated to Sawantwadi. They had no place of worship nor priests to meet their spiritual and sacramental needs, yet they maintain their faith. The Vicar apostolic of Goa would send priests to Sawantwadi. Milagris church was renovated in 1879, from 20th October 1953, Sawantwadi was placed under the Poona Diocese along with the other parishes of then Ratnagiri District. In 1977 the present new church was built to accommodate the growing population.
